d. BH gave an update on the RYLA developments and working with Leeds Club

a. CU will book Leeds City Varieties. It was reiterated the importance of having some other acts as support (maybe 3 supporting acts each of 20 minutes, interval then Elvis for 50-60 minutes). MR to ask Elvis to arrange a backing group
b. UK distributed a quiz. To enter costs £2 and answers would be announced on the 19th December.
c. CG raised the suggestion of collecting extra Club funds which would pay for speakers and guests. It was agreed as a good idea. Initiatives to collect Club funds were welcome e.g. Uell’s quiz
d. A reminder that the bank signatories need to be updated – Action BH, CU
e. It was proposed that we officially host our events at Mal Maison. This was seconded by CG and unanimously supported

Superb full breakfasts are available. Following on from a meeting I have had this morning with Malmaison, we will try 2 weeks on Wednesday 7th and Wednesday 14th of November 2007 at Malmaison - over the road from The Golden Lion. The venue is nice, modern, welcoming, private and they have offered us a discounted fee.
I have negotiated a special price of £10 per head (normally £13.50) to include continental and or/fully cooked breakfast and tea or coffee. Just tea or coffee is £2.50. We will have the Private Dining Room in the Brasserie for the meetings; a larger room can be made available at no charge if we are doing a bigger presentation - the only fee we will have is breakfast per person.
We need to place breakfast orders by 7.30am ideally, so to have an idea of numbers would be a fantastic help.
Let’s give it a go and see how we get on. See you on Wednesday 7 November at Malmaison. One of their staff will be on hand to show us round. We have a speaker on the 14th.

MR has a positive meeting with incoming President of Junior Chamber, Julia Goodfellow. There is the possibility of sharing the promotion of a Business Lecture. JCI to consider and feedback to MR
4. Rotary Young Chef – 5. BH proposed that we increase the signatories to the cheque book. This was agreed to be Babs, Chris and Michelle
6. MR will be submitting a proposal to Anita Rayner for her to submit to the region recommending the use of a PR agency
7. MR suggested that the next meeting on Wed 7 November is used as a BRAINSTORMING and ACTION SETTING session for our BIG event. CU has passed on feedback that City Variety thinks that Elvis is not the vest venue for such an event. Venue and date needs to be booked ASAP

Hi All

Regrettably we cannot hold our meeting on the evening of 5th September up at Lineham Farm. So, we will hold our usual morning meeting instead.

Martyn can however offer the evening of 12 or 19 September as alternatives when the farm will be wholly accessible, a grand tour can be followed by a bite and a pint up at the New Inn ¼ mile away.

Please can you all let me know your preferences, and we will go with the majority. I am conscious that we have a speaker on the morning of 12 September anyway so we would be meeting twice!

I look forward to hearing from you all ASAP so that we can make a decision.

The evening will start at 6pm with networking and a reception drink offered with the compliments of new Club President Michelle Render. The venue is The Lounge, Merrion Street, Leeds, LS2 8JE.

Come and learn directly from one of Leeds ' most respected diamond graders who has the knowledge and skills in one of the world's most glamorous sectors of the jewellery industry – diamonds. She is an alumnus of Bradford University, who gained her MA last year, and will be flying into the UK between appointments in Bruges and Paris. Amongst the inspiring topics she will discuss are:

· Her current role in Washington supporting Congresswoman Carolyn Kilpatrick in helping resolve the conflict in Darfur.
· Her collaboration with Rotary D7030 in Guyana on identifying future Peace Fellows from low income countries.
· Her work in Guyana on peace through the power of integration rather than segregation in the Caribbean.
· Her future career aspirations.
· How she manages all this with a husband and three sons to care for!
· How the Rotary World Peace Fellows programme is already making a difference to the security of our World.

We had a visitor!
Matteo Cristani - from Verona garced us with his presence this week as he was in Leeds for a couple of weeks working at the University.
we have all been invited to Matteo's club in Italy and to go to the opera(which sounds fantastic) and we are all viewing the flights at jet2 to see what we can arrange.

Some dates for our diaries;

Curly advises that Jongleurs is now booked for the 10th October and the event will now be called.....McDermott and Gott go OTT

Jongleurs will sell tickets on our behalf and we will have links to various websites. We need to come up with some wording to promote Rotary for the website

When the publicity material/e-mail is ready we will all need to approach our friends and business contacts to help sell 300 tickets which will be priced at £30

REMINDER 1

Wednesday the 7th June meeting is our annual 'Assembly Meeting' where we elect/volunteer/or are allocated responsibilities for next year.

Erwin will be visiting us and can I PLEASE have a note of any apologies for absence

Lineham Farm Summer Fayre is on Sunday 16th July. I have a poster which I will bring to the next meeting. It starts at 11am till 3pm and helpers are always required on the day
